LA QUINTA, Calif. — Gary Woodland shot an 8-under-par 64 on Friday for a share of the third-round lead in the Bob Hope Classic with Jhonattan Vegas.
Vegas, 26, is the first Venezuelan to earn a PGA Tour card, but he said he’s not losing sleep over being in the lead for the second consecutive day of his fifth PGA Tour event after a 67—198 at the Silver Rock course.
“If there’s something that I do well, it’s sleep,” Vegas said.
Greg Chalmers (65) was a stroke back, while former Colorado State star Martin Laird was 16-under after a bogey-free 64.
• Russ Cochran had two eagles and six birdies in a career-best 10-under 62 to take the first-round lead in the Champions Tour’s season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Kaupulehu-Kona, Hawaii.
Cochran missed just one green in regulation and holds a two-stroke lead over defending champion Tom Watson and Ben Crenshaw.
• Padraig Harrington was disqualified from the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship after he failed to replace a ball that had moved a fraction of an inch when he picked up his marker during the opening round in the United Arab Emirates.
Harrington was in second place after shooting a 65 on Thursday. A television viewer e-mailed European Tour officials about the infraction.
“You know what, a lot worse things could happen. You could be five ahead going into the last round,” Harrington said jokingly.
Martin Kaymer leads by three strokes after two rounds and is bidding to win this tournament a third time after a 7-under 65—132.
Injury keeps Bosh sidelined
MIAMI — Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh, nursing a sprained left ankle suffered last weekend, is unlikely to play tonight against the Toronto Raptors.
• Celtics center Shaquille O’Neal will not play in tonight’s game against the Washington Wizards after his hip “locked up” during Boston’s 110-86 victory over the Utah Jazz, coach Doc Rivers said.

U.S. women fall to Sweden
CHONGQUING, China — Carli Lloyd‘s goal off an 11th-minute corner kick was offset when Stina Segerstrom scored in the 16th and Kosovare Asllani in the 60th to give Sweden a 2-1 victory over the Americans in the opening game of the Four Nations Tournament.
The Americans had not taken a lead and then lost since March 5, 2002, a 3-2 defeat to Norway at the Algarve Cup.
