Denver police are searching for a driver in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 21-year-old parking valet Saturday night.

Police say the victim was hit near 900 Lincoln St. around 11:50 p.m. by a white SUV heading north.

Chris Woodcock said he was on duty with Jose Medina parking cars when Medina was hit.

It was Medina’s first night on the job outside the Rockstar Lounge, Woodcock said.

Woodcock said he left to look for a set of keys around the back of the club when a white sedan with four girls inside pulled up to be parked.

Though he did not see the accident, Woodcock said Medina went around to the driver’s side of the car when the SUV hit the sedan.

“I second-guess myself constantly,” he said. “I’m in part responsible for it, you know, because I asked him to go and get that car so I could go behind the club. And he did, and he got hit instead of me.”

The impact “shattered the glass, and the girls were still sitting in the car,” he said.

That is when Woodcock came back around the building and ran down the street.

“And I grabbed his hand, and he rolled his head into my lap,” he said, “and I told him . . . that he was going to be OK.”

But Medina died at the hospital.
