An Arvada man will spend the rest of his life in prison for smashing his ex-wife’s skull with a wine bottle and then strangling her.
Daryll Glenn Brown 46, was sentenced today in Jefferson County District Court to life in prison without parole, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office. He was convicted yesterday of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and burglary.
Daryll and Alisha Brown had recently finalized a quarrelsome divorce, citing parenting issues with their son, of whom they shared custody.
A few days before the murder, Daryll Brown picked up his son from his ex-wife’s home. She later became concerned when she was unable to reach Brown.
She contacted her divorce attorney, who prepared documents detailing Brown’s violation of his visitation agreement.
On Dec. 31, 2009, Alisha Brown, 31, was found murdered in her home where she lived with their 4-year-old son.
Brown used a key to sneak into his ex-wife’s house late the night of Dec. 29, 2009 or early the next morning. While Alisha Brown was sleeping, Daryll Brown smashed her skull and then strangled her. The toddler was not in the home at the time of the murder.
The district attorney said Alisha Brown’s mother and older sister addressed the court during today’s sentencing hearing.
