About a dozen spinout accidents were reported before 7 a.m. during an icy Wednesday morning commute.

9NEWS Traffic Reporter Amelia Earhart says motorists were urged to take it slow and give themselves extra time to get to their destination.

Denver Fire responded to at least six accidents, many involving three or four cars, according to spokesman Phil Champagne.

No major injuries were reported.

Amelia says nearly all of the spinouts have been reported on highways across the metro area. The shoulders and elevated portions of highways were particularly slick and icy on Wednesday.

The Colorado Department of Transportation says it is continuing to spread a solid de-icer to help melt the ice and provide traction, according to spokeswoman Stacy Stegman.

CDOT crews will continue to spend time de-icing bridges and overpasses, which ice over quicker and remain colder than roads on the ground level.

“If anyone is going at all too fast, or being at all reckless it’s easy to loose control,” Stegman said.

CDOT said north parts of metro Denver were the worst.
