A 31-year-old Brighton man is facing child abuse charges in the death of 2-year-old boy Wednesday night, 9News reported.
The relationship between the man, Donald Jean Scarlett, and the child, Michael Harris, was unclear.
Brighton police spokesman John Bradley said Scarlett called 911 to report a medical emergency at his home Tuesday afternoon at about 1 p.m.
Brighton Fire personnel performed CPR on the child before rushing him to Platte Valley Medical Center. He was later transported to The Children’s Hospital in Aurora where he died Wednesday evening.
Scarlett’s previous criminal record includes a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge in Douglas County, which was dismissed by prosecutors in November.
The court file notes that a mandatory protection order against Scarlett was lifted, but the online file does not specify who the order was intended to protect.
