Getting your player ready...

FORT COLLINS — Undeterred by weather-related school closures from Chicago to Dallas, Colorado State collected 23 signatures today on national signing day, in addition to four players already on campus.

Without fax machines handy, some new Rams took cell phone pictures of their signed letters and called them in. The NCAA approved the process.

“I’m glad we able to announce everyone,” said CSU coach Steve Fairchild.

Colleges had to have some evidence — usually a faxed copy of the letter of intent — of a signature before announcing the players.

Of his fourth signing class, Fairchild said: “We didn’t get everyone we wanted, but I’d be worried if we did.”

There was one late adjustment — previously committed long snapper Tanner Gibas of Covina, Calif. — did not sign with the Rams and is fielding other offers. The Rams picked up a late commitment from Robert Nunn, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound wide receiver from Bastrop, Texas.

“When you analyze it from a position standpoint we helped ourselves across the board in every offensive and defensive position,” Fairchild said.

As expected, CSU’s freshman class includes five in-state players. Thompson Valley running back Dorian Brown, the top-rated of the bunch, is already on campus.

“If we could get four or five in-state (recruits) every year we’d be very happy,” Fairchild said.
