University of Northern Colorado President Kay Norton announced on Wednesday that UNC will freeze hiring all non-faculty positions with annual salaries of more than $25,000 as part of a cost-savings plan.
Norton, who spoke to UNC employees Wednesday during a noon brown-bag lunch meeting, also asked UNC faculty and staff to help the university find $5 million in permanent cost-cutting measures.
In her address, Norton outlined seven strategies the university will immediately implement to cut costs amid expectations of a $14 million funding shortfall for the 2011-2012 school year.
