Vail’s Lindsey Vonn has had a number of close calls in World Cup downhill races this season, but she had a spectacular crash Wednesday while training in giant slalom at Hinterreit, Austria.
“I hit my head pretty hard and had to go to the hospital to get a CT scan,” Vonn said in a Facebook post. “Luckily the scan showed no major injuries! I will be very sore (today) but should be fine in a few days. I will have to see how I feel and play it by ear for the upcoming races this weekend in Zwiesel, Germany.”
World Cup GS and slalom races are scheduled Friday and Saturday, with the world championships set to begin Tuesday in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Vonn won gold medals in downhill and super-G at the last world championships, two years ago in Val d’Isere, France.
