A Colorado Springs man has been arrested for allegedly beating two people with a “wooden Native American spiritual stick,” police said.
The incident happened Thursday at the Western Terrace Apartments, 1130 Cancun Court, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.
Police said a 26-year-old woman was sitting in a stairwell at the apartments when a “verbal confrontation” ensued with a man.
A 32-year-old man intervened in the argument and the assault suspect “took a wooden Native American spiritual stick” from the male victim and “proceeded to assault” the pair.
The male victim “suffered multiple contusions, a bruised lung and a fractured rib,” police said. The woman suffered multiple bruises.
Police identified the suspect in the assaults as 22-year-old Parris Mathis.
Mathis was taken into custody at his apartment, where police found “several marijuana plants.”
Police said Mathis is also being investigated for distribution of marijuana.
