The Colorado Mammoth lost 11-6 to the Boston Blazers on Saturday night at the TD Garden in Boston, its fourth consecutive loss.

Trailing 7-1 at halftime, Colorado outscored the Blazers 3-2 in the third quarter but could only match Boston’s two goals in the fourth, falling to 1-5 on the season.

The Mammoth struggled on special teams, giving up a power-play goal and three short-handed goals while failing to score on six power plays.

John Grant Jr. and Dan Carey each had two goals and two assists for Colorado. Carey, sidelined all of 2010 and much of 2009, scored his first goals since January 2009.

Record-breaking Grizzly.

Adams State sophomore Katelyn Lovato broke the NCAA Division II softball record by hitting safely in her 41st straight game as the Grizzlies defeated Mary (N.D.) 8-0 at the Desert Stinger Classic in Las Vegas. Lovato doubled to left field on a 2-0 pitch in the first inning to eclipse the record of 40 set by Danielle Monson of Central Washington last year. Lovato, a graduate of Northglenn, has hit safely in every game of her collegiate career, including 38 last season.

Phinney in pro debut.

U.S. Olympian and reigning world individual-pursuit champion Taylor Phinney will make his professional cycling debut next week in the Tour of Oman for BMC Racing. The Boulder native missed his planned debut at the Tour of Qatar because of illness and a knee injury.

The six-day Tour of Oman begins Tuesday. Phinney, the U.S. time trial champion, is a favorite in the fifth stage, an 11.5-mile time trial. BMC Racing president Jim Ochowicz said the pro debut “is a milestone event for him and for us.”
