DENVER—The mother of one of the drivers in a collision that killed a Colorado family of five says her daughter must have had some sort of medical problem before the crash.
Gloria Barela tells KMGH-TV her daughter, Monica Ann Chavez, wouldn’t drive the way officials said she did before the collision on Thursday in suburban Denver.
Authorities say Chavez’s SUV was going at high speed when it crossed into oncoming traffic, struck a sedan, went airborne and crashed into a pickup carrying the five victims.
Chavez’s pastor told The Denver Post that she apparently had a seizure and lost consciousness and doesn’t remember the crash.
Killed were Randy and Crystal Stollsteimer and their three children, ages 7, 9 and 12.
Chavez and her two children were hospitalized and later released.
