Former President George W. Bush is scheduled to headline a battery of speakers at the annual Young Presidents’ Organization global conference, to be held Thursday through Saturday at various downtown locations.

The Global Leadership Conference and Summit is expected to draw more than 1,500 attendees — the organization has 17,000 members — and is likely to affect downtown traffic, especially with the three-day closing of Larimer Street at Larimer Square, starting today, to accommodate a block-long heated tent for the event’s kickoff Thursday.

Larimer Street is scheduled to reopen Friday by 8 a.m.

President Barack Obama is set to address the conference by video Friday. Bush is slated to speak Saturday morning at the Colorado Convention Center and heads a list of speakers that includes Rwandan President Paul Kagame, human-genome scientist Dr. J. Craig Venter and nine-time Grammy Award winner John Legend. David Migoya, The Denver Post
