Publishing company Wilbooks and author Bruce Larkin, who owns the company, have donated 300 books to Fairview Elementary School in Denver.

The donation is the first part of 25,000 books promised to Colorado schools by Larkin, who has written more than 800 children’s books.

“Children need to read to enjoy all of the great opportunities that our country offers. I owe my success to the excellent education I received,” Larkin said in a press release.

In 2010, Larkin donated almost 450,000 books to schools and charities nationwide, and this year is aiming to distribute 500,000, starting with the 25,000 for Colorado, according to the release.

Fairview is one of five Colorado schools chosen to receive books.

The books sent to each school are catered to regional interests. Books for Colorado schools include topics such as native wildlife and Colorado state symbols.

Teachers or schools in Denver interested in receiving book donations can use the custom donation order form in the free books section of .
