A 20-year-old woman was sentenced to 5 years probation today for a fatal July 4 shooting.
At 5:37 p.m. on July 4, Broomfield police responded to a possible suicide on a sidewalk in the 3000 block of W. 134th Ave., according to a news release from the District Attorney’s Office in Broomfield.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Anthony Verra, 20 of Broomfield, with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators later learned that Verra and Amber Lona, 20, were looking at Verra’s handgun that was thought to be unloaded.
Lona pulled the trigger and shot Verra in the face, killing him.
Lona pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide, a felony, on Dec. 2. She was sentenced to five years probation, 30 days in jail, 200 hours of community service and $16,323.73 in restitution.
