GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A new bridge that will carry a sewer line across the Colorado River in western Colorado will also have a deck for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Two cranes hoisted the heavy, 160-foot-long center span into place on Thursday. All the spans are expected to be in place in the coming week.
Crews will pour the cement deck once the weather warms, and trails will be constructed to both ends by the fall.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports the sewer line will run from the town of Whitewater to a treatment plant.
County planners say the bridge was the cheapest way to get the sewer line across the river, and combining it with a deck for pedestrians and bicyclist added to the benefit.
