Friday, March 11, 2011 1:45 PM [RELEASE AT WILL]:  The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking for the publicÕs help with information that can lead to the return of a bronze statue that was stolen from the property of the Grace Episcopal Church either late Saturday, March 5 or early Sunday, March 6. The bronze statue is approximately 5 feet tall. St. Francis is holding a bird in his hand and a bird rests on each shoulder. A rabbit sits at his right foot. The statue was taken from the columbarium where generations of Grace Episcopal parishioners have been buried.  According to Chip Hill, Junior Warden of Grace Episcopal Church, ÒThe statue is a gift given in memory of devoted people and its absence is a source of tremendous pain and distress to us.Ó  A photo of the Statue accompanies this release. Anyone with information should call police at 719-444-7000. COLORADO SPRINGS — Police are asking for the public’s help after a statue of St. Francis disappeared late Saturday or early Sunday from a downtown church.

The 5-foot-tall bronze statue stood in a graveyard outside Grace Episcopal Church, 601 N. Tejon St.

St. Francis is holding a bird in his hand, and birds rest on either shoulder. A rabbit sits at his right foot.
