A Greeley woman accused of conspiring with her boyfriend to kill her ex-husband two years ago offered many explanations for circumstances that eventually led police to believe she was a key player in the murder.
Georgia Watson took the stand in her own defense Monday, after a week of testimony against her, ultimately shaking her head in frustration and whispering to herself on the stand, “This isn’t happening.”
Watson, 46, is accused of helping her boyfriend, Cecil Joe Erb, now 29, plan the death of her ex-husband, Jeffrey Watson. Erb gunned down Watson while he sat in his truck early on Feb. 19, 2009. Prosecutors have said Georgia Watson had sought a hired killer for years so she could cash in on her husband’s $100,000 life insurance policy. Prosecutors said she called to check on that policy just two weeks before the murder, and continually tried to cash in that policy after her ex’s death.
“I’d like to know where all those people were who could have done something,” Watson said about her ex-husband’s death. “I didn’t get a chance to say anything cause I didn’t know anything.”
