The long-term relationship between Colorado men’s basketball coach and Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon apparently has provided another benefit.

Jeremy Adams, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Navarro (Texas) Junior College, has given an oral commitment to Colorado for next season, according to the Boulder Daily Camera. Adams initially committed to Texas A&M but left College Station after redshirting as a freshman.

CU coach Tad Boyle played with Turgeon at Kansas under Larry Brown in the 1980s. Boyle then worked as an assistant coach for Turgeon at Jacksonville (Ala.) State and Wichita State.

Adams will give Colorado another scorer and could fill the role of Alec Burks. Burks, a sophomore, has said he will not decide whether or not to apply for the 2011 NBA draft until after the Buffs complete their season. CU plays next week in the National Invitation Tournament semifinals at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

As a senior at Central High School in Madison, Miss., Adams averaged 27.2 points and 7.3 rebounds.

Adams is the fourth known commitment for next season. During the early signing period in November, Boyle signed three high school seniors from the Los Angeles area: guards Spencer Dinwiddie and Askia Booker and forward Damiene Cain.

Also new next season will be 6-5 Carlon Brown, a senior transfer from the University of Utah. Brown, who averaged 12.6 points in 2009-10 as a junior for the Utes, had to sit out this season in Boulder under transfer rules. He has impressed during CU practices.

Boyle also has oral commitments from two high school juniors from Colorado Springs for the 2012-13 season: 6-9 Josh Scott of Lewis-Palmer and 6-7 Wesley Gordon of Sierra.
