Construction workers on Interstate 25 on Alameda Avenue discovered road damage today, and will shut down all lanes of the highway to make emergency repairs tonight.
Mindy Crane , spokeswoman for Colorado Department of Transportation, said heavy machines and the construction project in the area likely were the cause of the damage.
“We just want to get it fixed tonight,” Crane said. “We don’t want people driving on that this weekend.”
The road damage crosses all lanes of the highway. All lanes will close on I-25 at Alameda Avenue starting at 11 p.m. The highway will reopen at 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
During the closure, drivers on northbound I-25 will exit onto Alameda Avenue and follow detour signs to Santa Fe Drive.
Once on Santa Fe Drive, drivers can head north to Cedar Avenue and take a left for access back to northbound I-25.
Delays are expected in the area.
