Former GOP congressman and American Constitution Party gubernatorial candidate Tom Tancredo has a new job, but his views — and willingness to express them — haven’t changed.

Tancredo announced this week he has joined Peak Capital Investment Services, which has offices in Denver and Dallas.

“Many people have asked me what I intend to do, now that I won’t be governor of Colorado (and thank you for that painful reminder),” Tancredo said in an e-mail to supporters. “I have many projects underway, but the one I’m the most excited about is joining Peak Capital Investment Services as a marketing executive.”

As the ACP candidate, Tancredo came in second in the governor’s race, behind Democrat John Hickenlooper but ahead of Republican Dan Maes. Tancredo frequently attacked Hickenlooper as running a “sanctuary city” while Denver mayor, which Hickenlooper vehemently denied.

But Tancredo doesn’t save his ire just for Democrats.

Case in point: Attorney General John Suthers’ office announced earlier this week that it was putting out a Spanish version of its “identity theft repair kit” — a pamphlet that tells people how to avoid identity theft and what to do if it happens.

“Identity theft is one of the fastest- growing crimes in the United States,” Suthers, a Republican, said in a statement. “This new edition of the ‘Identity Theft Repair Kit’ will expand the reach of our consumer-education efforts to help the state’s growing Hispanic and Spanish-speaking populations.”

What does Tancredo, perhaps the country’s best-known advocate for tougher immigration laws, think about that?

“Making it easier to be in this country without ever learning the language does not help the immigrant in the long run and it certainly does not help the process of assimilation,” Tancredo said. “There are far more important things upon which the attorney general needs to focus.”

Through a statement provided by a spokesman, Suthers disagreed.

“Contrary to Mr. Tancredo’s suggestion, it is a core responsibility of Colorado’s attorney general to work to prevent identity theft and to empower consumers to detect fraud and protect themselves, ” Suthers said. “The law does not discriminate between victims based on the languages they speak. We will continue to do the best job we can to use our resources to protect consumers and to make consumer-protection information widely accessible.”
