PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Authorities in southwest Florida are investigating a burglary at a home being rented by Tampa Bay Rays players Evan Longoria, David Price and Reid Brignac during spring training.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, the items stolen Saturday were valued at nearly $56,000 and included jewelry, cash, computer equipment and electronics.
An AK-47 rifle, which the sheriff’s office said was legal and belonged to Longoria, also was stolen.
Galarraga completes rotation
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Armando Galarraga will fill the final spot in the Diamondbacks’ rotation.
The Venezuelan right-hander beat out Aaron Heilman. Galarraga is best remembered for his gracious reaction when an umpire’s blown call cost him a perfect game for the Tigers against Cleveland last June 2.
Manager Kirk Gibson says the rotation will be Ian Kennedy, Daniel Hudson, Joe Saunders, Barry Enright and Galarraga. Gibson also said third baseman Geoff Blum (knee) will go on the disabled list.
Morneau ready for opening day
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Twins slugger Justin Morneau says he will be ready for opening day in Toronto. Morneau capped his spring with a hit in Minnesota’s 4-3 win over the Pirates
The 2006 AL MVP missed the final three months of last season with a concussion and played in only eight of 29 spring games.
“I’m starting to feel a lot more comfortable,” Morneau said.
Latos to go on DL
PEORIA, Ariz. — Padres general manager Jed Hoyer said Mat Latos will begin the season on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right shoulder. Latos would be eligible to play April 6.
Tim Stauffer is scheduled to start in Latos’ place on opening day at St. Louis on Thursday.

Bonds is accused of four counts of making false statements and one of obstruction for telling a federal grand jury in 2003 that he never knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs.
