An Evergreen family has turned hops and “ribbets” into a $30,000 donation for Children’s Hospital.
The Gumz family is the grand prize winner in the second annual Primrose Schools’ national Family Dance-off contest, according to a news release from Primrose Schools.
The family entered their 30-second “FrogP” dance video in the competition, which aims to fight childhood obesity and benefit the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals – an organization that raises money for 170 children’s hospital across North America.
The Gumz’s video was one of 14 finalists from the 185 videos submitted. The video received 14,187 of the total 294,000 votes.
Children’s Hospital in Aurora will receive a $30,000 donation today and the Gumz family will also receive a $5,000 cash prize.
The Gumz family learned about the Dance-off from the Primrose School of Bear Creek in Lakewood, where their 4-year-old son, Aiden, is a student.
The school held a surprise party for the family this morning where they learned they were the grand prize winners.
“We’ve been on pins and nails all week waiting to find out,” Rebekah Gumz said. “We’re very happy.”
Rebekah Gumz spent weeks hand-sewing green costumes and writing a song about “royal frogs” dancing in the forest.
Gumz said her husband, Schannon Gumz, was unsure about dressing head-to-toe in green, but he agreed to help for a good cause.
“It was worth it,” Schannon Gumz said.
The 30-second video captures the family cracking “ribbets,” dressed in green and hopping in the snow while Aiden sings.
Even the family dog, Sugar Bear, makes an appearance.
