A recently-terminated employee of the Great Sand Dunes National Park near Alamosa is under investigation for possibly embezzling funds, 9Wants to Know has learned. National Park Service spokesman James Doyle says an internal audit discovered the discrepancy. NPS investigators later turned over the case to federal prosecutors.
The woman at the center of the investigation was terminated within the last few months, Doyle said.
A source told 9Wants to Know Investigator Kyle Clark that the woman is suspected of taking a “large sum” and that the investigation will determine just how much money is missing.
The investigation appears to be in its early stages and the former employee has not been charged with a crime.
