No one was hurt this morning when a small experimental airplane caught fire at the Colorado Springs Airport, officials say.

Firefighters from Peterson Air Force Base Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire that began at about 7 a.m. between two hangers.

When the owner of the plane turned power on in the plane it caught on fire, said Troy Stover, Airport Operations Manager.

He got out without being hurt but the plane was destroyed, Stover said. No buildings or other planes were damaged, he said.

Investigators are now trying to figure out what triggered the fire, Stover said.
