PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—The U.S. military says 235 household pets got a ride home from Japan with their American military families evacuated following the tsunami.
The Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., helped coordinate the return of the family members and their pets.
Northern Command chief Adm. James Winnefeld listed the pet count in a blog post last week.
More than 5,200 family members of American service personnel have returned to the United States from Japan following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
They flew in through Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and airports in San Francisco, Seattle and Denver.
