MILWAUKEE — Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke threw a second bullpen session Saturday in his latest step to return from a cracked rib.
There’s been no timetable for his first appearance since being part of a six-player trade in December with Kansas City, but the 2009 AL Cy Young winner will need a rehab assignment that’s expected sometime this month.
“It’s not 100 percent right now, but it’s pretty good,” Greinke said.
Ohlendorf goes on the DL
PITTSBURGH — One day after Ross Ohlendorf removed himself from a start against the Rockies in the third inning, he was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Pirates with a strained shoulder, the same injury that landed him on the 60-day DL late last season.
To take Ohlendorf’s roster spot, the club recalled right- hander Daniel McCutchen from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Twins’ Slowey sidelined
MINNEAPOLIS — Twins right- hander Kevin Slowey was placed on the 15-day DL with bursitis in his throwing shoulder.
Slowey, who was moved from the rotation to the bullpen for the start of this season, felt some soreness in his right biceps on Monday.
The Twins recalled right- hander Alex Burnett from Triple-A Rochester to take Slowey’s place in the bullpen.
Footnotes.
The Yankees signed right-hander Carlos Silva to a minor-league contract, bringing in another option for their suspect rotation.
• The Orioles optioned right-hander Brad Bergesen to Triple-A Norfolk and selected the contract of pitcher Chris Jakubauskas.
• Angels left-hander Scott Kazmir has been placed on the 15-day DL with tightness in his lower back.
