The 9th Judicial District District Attorney’s office has concluded that no criminal charges can be filed against a Rifle police officer who wounded a man after he shot another officer while trying to escape arrest.

Phillip Michael Amonette allegedly shot a Rifle officer who responded to a domestic violence call last October.

Amonette allegedly pulled out a handgun as he tried to escape and shot the officer. The police officer, who was not struck by a bullet, then shot the suspect. The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, according to a news release.

“Based upon the investigation, review and analysis, the Office of the District Attorney for the 9th Judicial District has concluded that under applicable Colorado law no criminal charges can be filed or proven against the Rifle Police officer for the shooting of Mr. Amonette,” the release said.
