DENVER—Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet is starting his week in the classroom.

Bennet plans to serve as a guest teacher Monday when he visits a public kindergarten through 8th grade school in Denver. He’ll be filling in for Teach for America teacher Alanna Mednick for an hour at the Florida Pitt Waller school.

The former Denver schools superintendent has been visiting schools around the state to prepare for the debate over reauthorizing the 10-year-old No Child Left Behind Act.

Bennet has said he’d like students to take fewer tests, and increase incentives for the best-rated teachers to make education a more competitive field.
