Getting your player ready...
Shellie Jochum, a registered nurse at Denver Health, was living in Thornton, weighing her options on where to raise son Jayden, 2, when she came across a community with prices $20,000 less than anything else she’d seen. “I realized it was my price range,” she recalled Monday, as crews from K.B. Home were setting the roof on her new ‘Muirfield’ plan at Outlook Pointe in Commerce City, set for move-in around July 4.
Two other factors made this come together: Her older house sold in only 13 days (“I always hear how bad the market is,” Jochum said with a shrug.) And K.B. Home gave her big-time flexibility in picking some options that she really wanted (a fireplace), and holding back on some others that weren’t as important (fancier kitchen finishes) to keep the final tab in range of a single-mom budget.
Prices start at $184,995. Sales reps Jim, Stephanie and Lena (they’ll have coffee gift cards while supplies last) can show you three models, including a ‘Muirfield’ like Shellie Jochum bought; and a 1,777-foot ‘Kensington’ ranch that’s ready for move-in next month, $250,000. You can also tour the 7-acre neighborhood park that caught Shellie Jochum’s eye, and the proximity of I-76, off 120th a mile west via Sable, that’ll give her a half-hour commute into Denver for work.
“Our homes are priced lower than any of our competitors,” says Rusty Crandall, Division President for K.B. Home. He adds that K.B. Home’s approach to picking options – culminating in a visit to the builder’s huge “One-Stop-Shop” Design Studio – is a perfect match for families trying to reach for new home features, while keeping costs down. “Given a choice to save dollars, around 70% of buyers really don’t want a tub in the master bath,” he notes. As a result, on the Open Series designers honed in on features that most buyers really DO want: at least a partial basement (K.B. Home will upgrade to a full one for around $2,800); a powder bath; and a wide, country-style porch.
On these larger homesites at Outlook Pointe (the address is Commerce City, but popular Brighton 27-J provides the schools) K.B. Home offers special plans not offered anywhere else in the Denver area…and has some lots that will take garden-level basements, backing to open space. “You need to get out and see these homes before prices go up,” adds Crandall. To reach Outlook Pointe, take I-76 north to Sable (first exit after U.S. 85), turn LEFT not right, to 120th Avenue, then turn east (right) a half mile to Chambers and watch for signs (models are at 122nd and Joplin). Or from Aurora take Tower north to 120th, then west.
