A 41-year-old man was sentenced today in Weld County District Court to 10 years to life in prison for the sexual assault of a young girl in May 2009.
Juan Morales was convicted Feb. 14 of charges — sexual assault and attempted sexual assault, both felonies, and sexual assault— 10-year age difference, a misdemeanor.
Police said the victim in the case — who was then 16 — went to a house party in May 2009. The victim, along with other underage girls who attended the party, later fell asleep at the house.
During the night, the victim woke up while Morales was sexually assaulting her. She pushed Morales away and began screaming.
Because the crime of sexual assault carries an indeterminate sentence, Morales could spend up to life in prison for his crime, said Weld District Attorney spokeswoman Jennifer Finch.
