Two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled Monday when an aircraft lost communication while flying near the nation’s capitol.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command — NORAD, as it is commonly known — directed the two F-16s as they intercepted the aircraft at about 12:30 p.m., according to a release by the military base.
After being intercepted, the small private airplane flew out of the restricted airspace.
It was not immediately known why the aircraft flew into the restricted airspace or why it lost communications.
