Lauryn Hill stopped many of us in our tracks during her sunset performance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival last Friday. The former first lady of R&B/ soul/hip-hop took the stage with a mammoth band (full horn section, percussion, DJ, backup singers etc.) and delivered lightning-fast remixes of her past hits. Her landmark album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” turns 13 this year, and it still sounds as fresh and poignant as ever. Hill’s late- ’90s breakout and subesquent five Grammy wins ultimately led to her emotional breakdown (she has since shunned the public eye and released only one live album). Tickets for her Saturday show at the Fillmore Auditorium, $44.50, are available through .
The University of Colorado Program Council has been dormant for a while, but the collegiate promoters will come back strong tonight in bringing GLOWfest to Balch Field House on the CU campus. The mini electronic music festival offers different incarnations at colleges across the country, and tonight’s show in Boulder proves it’s no time to be a wallflower. Headlining acts include the Brooklyn-via-Boulder electro group Savoy and a DJ set by indie-dance heroes Crystal Castles. Rising electro acts Sorry For Parting, Thick Chick, Fresh2Death and Josh McAdoo will also perform. So dig out those neon tees, leg warmers, crack a few glow sticks, and head up to the hill. Tickets, $25-$60, are available through .
