Driver of street sweeper charged after driving into BBQ restaurant

The street sweeper was operated by a private company, and it was unclear whether the driver fell asleep or had a seizure. "From the damage, it looks like he hit about full force," Higgins said. The driver was taken to the hospital.

Officers have charged the driver of a street sweeper who ran into a barbeque restaurant early Monday.

Denver Police charged the driver, whose name has not been released, with careless driving after he drove through the wall of Famous Daves Bar-B-Que in Stapleton.

The street sweeper was allegedly going 40 mph when it plowed through a wall, destroyed the bar and damaged an interior wall of the restaurant. It came to a stop about 14- or 15-feet inside the restaurant.

The driver of the street sweeper was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. It is unknown at this time what caused the driver to run into the building.
