CASTLE ROCK — A jury Thursday awarded $350,000 to an 8-year-old boy whose mother was killed, along with a male passenger, in a car accident in August 2009.

Jurors deliberated for about six hours before awarding the money to Damon Marquand. Damon was 7 when his mother, Grace Cruthers, was killed when a car driven at 110 mph by Dominick Wil mer, who was drunk and high on marijuana, went into a ditch on Titan Road, spun and rolled. Wilmer survived.

The boy will receive about $300,000 because the jury assigned 85 percent of the blame to Wilmer and 15 percent to Cruthers, meaning Damon will get 85 percent of the award.

The second person named as a defendant in the civil suit, Joshua Hill, who owned the car, was not required to pay any money, according to the jury. Another passenger, Jonathan Rich ardson, also died, but his family settled that case.
