ARLINGTON, Texas — Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton is able to run and throw as he recovers from a broken right shoulder that is expected to sideline the reigning AL MVP for up to two months.

Swinging a bat is still out for the left- handed hitter because of the stress it would put on the shoulder.

“He’s feeling better. His biggest problem is finishing,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said of Hamilton’s swing. “As far as all his other movements, it’s great. But the finish is the thing.”

Hamilton, who was hurt April 12, refused to speculate on a timetable for his return.

Rolen sits after injections to shoulder

ST. LOUIS — Reds third baseman Scott Rolen had two cortisone injections Thursday to relieve pain and stiffness in his left shoulder and neck and was not in Cincinnati’s starting lineup.

Rolen said he had issues with the shoulder for a week to 10 days before consulting team medical personnel.

“I’ve been battling with it, trying to get over the hump a little bit, and it’s going the wrong way,” Rolen said.

Footnotes.

The Dodgers activated right- hander Vicente Padilla (arm) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned reliever Ramon Troncoso to Triple-A Albuquerque.

• Mets center fielder Angel Pagan was placed on the 15-day DL because of a strained left oblique, and the team was not certain when he would return. Jason Pridie was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo.

• Reds reliever Jared Burton underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery in Cincinnati and will be sidelined indefinitely.

• Cubs right-hander Andrew Cashner (rotator cuff) played catch and might be in line to start Tuesday’s game against the Rockies.
