As part of the company’s 15th anniversary celebration, Denver-based MapQuest sent employees out to the 16th Street Mall during lunch to give out free items and listen to what users had to say about their mobile applications.
“A lot of people don’t realize we’re based in Denver, and we feel so inspired by what’s right outside our front door,” said Jen Asbury, senior communications manager at MapQuest. “We want to help the people that we are leaning on,”
All 60 of the MapQuest’s employees who work at the new Denver office were sent out in street teams, no exceptions.
“Even the general manager is out here somewhere,” Asbury said.
In additions to stickers and buttons, the street teams were giving away QR codes for a free voice-activated mobile navigation application.
Richard Massanou took a code and says he thinks the application should come in handy in his job installing cable.
“In my field, the job site is different every day, so I think this will be useful,” said Massanou, who added he thought the street teams were a good idea. “It’s a good way to get new customers.”
In addition to giving out free stuff, the street teams also helped users in other ways. A group of girls asked one of the employees to help them with a school scavenger hunt.
“They needed a picture of somebody laughing hysterically,” said Brian Gaza, who posed with the children while laughing through the large green MapQuest megaphone he was holding. “I think I was able to fulfill that one.”
