GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—Some Glenwood Springs City Council members say they’re willing to consider relaxing a 16-year-old ban on wood-burning stoves because newer models produce less pollution.
The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reports that resident Craig Ullmann asked the council to reconsider the ban because he wants to install one.
Council member Todd Leahy says the current ban is hard to enforce.
Leahy says fireplace dealers told him newer-model stoves are much cleaner than models produced a decade ago.
City planners say the ban was enacted in 1995 to reduce pollution.
They say there’s no way to ensure the new stoves produce less pollution over the long run.
