Getting your player ready...

In memory of Jake.

The public is invited to attend a tribute to the Jake Snakenberg Youth Sports Concussion Act today at 1:30 p.m. at Grandview High School in Aurora, where the freshman played football and died after suffering from second impact syndrome on Sept. 19, 2004.

Snakenberg likely suffered a concussion the week before — no one was informed or identified it. He never regained consciousness after engaging in typical contact in his next outing.

Coaches are now required by law to obtain education on how to recognize a concussion and see that the player is removed from play if a concussion is suspected. The player also must be OK’d by a medical professional before returning to play.

The tribute is sponsored by Cherry Creek Schools, by the Colorado Traumatic Brain Injury Trust Foundation and by the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado.
