DENVER—The Colorado attorney general has sued a Florida law firm alleging it contracted with more than 650 residents to provide them with debt management services but didn’t have a license to do so.

Attorney General John Suthers said Thursday his office sued the Johnson Law Group of Orlando, Fla., in Denver District Court.

The law firm did not immediately return a telephone message left by The Associated Press Thursday.

Suthers says the company assistant clients in settling debts.

He says his office sent the law firm an order to comply with state licensing requirements in July 2009. Suthers alleges the firm continued to perform debt management services after that.
