A Denver County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of sexual assault on a child, according to Denver police.
Deputy Brennon Lonergan, 36, a Denver sheriff’s deputy since 2005, is on unpaid leave and remains in in custody without bond in the Adams County Jail as a courtesy, because of his job at the Denver County jail. He was arrested Tuesday on an earlier charge on a warrant from Lakewood and advised of the newer sex assault charge today.
“I don’t have any information about this case, because it’s unrelated to his work at the Sheriff’s Department,” said Sheriff’s Capt. Frank Gale.
He said Longergan has been on unpaid leave for about two months because of personal issues.
Records show he also is being held on a warrant from Lakewood that alleges felony stalking with threats, following, contact or surveilance, as well as a felony count of stalking with emotional distress.
That offense is alleged to have happened on April 12.
Records also show Lonergan’s wife filed for divorce on March 16 and received a restraining order against Brennon Lonergan alleging domestic abuse on April 14.
