BOULDER, Colo.—A Grand Junction man accused of bludgeoning a man to death in Boulder in 1993 will stand trial for second-degree murder.
The Daily Camera reports that 43-year-old David John Trujillo pleaded not guilty Friday to killing 55-year-old David Eugene Cox. His trial is set to start Oct. 17.
Trujillo was arrested last spring after authorities said DNA tests linked him to the murder weapon— a tea kettle. Authorities say Trujillo’s DNA profile was entered into a national database after his conviction for felony menacing and harassment.
A judge dismissed the case last August, saying there wasn’t enough evidence for a murder charge. But a district judge overruled that decision in December.
Trujillo was released on a personal recognizance bond because of a medical condition. He must wear an ankle monitor.
