After going a week with a 32-32 split in the House, majority Republicans once again have Rep. Larry Liston’s eye.

Er, aye, that is.

Liston, whose doctors told him he could not drive over Monument Hill because the altitude would injure a recovering detached retina, made it to Denver on Monday after taking U.S. 24 from Colorado Springs to Limon and then Interstate 70 to Denver.

“You do what you got to do,” Liston said. “I’m going stir crazy and been wanting to get back up there (Denver).”

Liston had surgery on his left eye last Monday. He had to remain at home for a week so his eye could heal.

With the legislative session ending May 11, Republicans, who hold a 33-32 majority, were suddenly one lawmaker short of having the necessary 33 votes to pass legislation. House GOP leaders began laying over important bills, unsure of when Liston might be back.

“I’m excited to get back,” Liston said. “I have missed people up there.”
