The University of Colorado women’s golf team posted a final-round 18-over-par 306 to finish in 18th place at 55-over 919 Saturday in the NCAA East Regional at LPGA International (Legends Course) in Daytona Beach, Fla. Alabama (2-over 866) placed first, followed by North Carolina (4-over 868) and Arizona (7-over 871) in the team competition. The top eight teams advanced to the NCAA Championships.

Junior Emily Talley led the way for CU, finishing tied for 52nd at 11-over 227.

• The University of Denver women’s team finished 13th at the West Regional at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash., at 56-over 920, 54 strokes behind the winner, Southern California, and 12 strokes behind the final qualifier, Texas A&M. Sarah Faller had DU’s best finish, tied for 18th at 7-over 223.

Rams’ Peterson downed in playoff.

It took three playoff holes for UNLV’s Derek Ernst to oust Colorado State’s Ryan Peterson and New Mexico’s Travis Ross after each finished the Mountain West Conference Tournament with a 6-under 207 at Omni Tucson National. Ernst won the individual title with a birdie on the third playoff hole. Colorado State finished fourth, Air Force eighth and Wyoming ninth.

Colorado State’s Mike Sorensen, Air Force’s Robert Belz and Wyoming’s Gabe Maier posted three-round totals of 212 to tie for seventh place.

Rangers earn bid to NCAA softball tourney.

The Regis University softball team won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament, defeating Adams State 5-2 at CSM Softball Field in Golden. Adams State beat Colorado Mines 5-1 in the first game Saturday to set up a meeting with Regis, the only team with no losses in the tournament. The Grizzlies then downed the Rangers 5-4 to force Regis into a second game to earn the title.

In the finale, after Adams State scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to take a 2-1 lead, Regis tied the game on Bianca Holly’s RBI single and won it on Nikki Haberkorn’s three-run home run — making Haberkorn the winning pitcher.

Rush stay alive vs. Eagles.

Adam Hogg and Scott May scored for the Colorado Eagles, who could not overcome a 3-0 deficit to host Rapid City, and the Rush forced a Game 6 in the Central Hockey League’s Turner Conference Finals with a 3-2 win.

Jackson staying in NBA draft.

Reggie Jackson of Boston College, by way of Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, will remain in the NBA draft.

The 6-foot-3 junior previously declared, and the school issued a statement from Jackson saying the NBA “has always been a dream of mine, and it is one I wish to pursue.”
