Two lanes of eastbound I-70 near Peoria Street were closed this afternoon as workers filled and stabilized a fissure alongside the highway.

All lanes were reopened about 2 p.m.

The fissure, caused by a faulty drain pipe that adversely affected water runoff in today’s storm, was discovered at about 10:30 a.m., said Mindy Crane, a Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman.

“It was washing out a little of the slope,” Crane said. “We wanted to get out there and get it fixed before it impacts the roadway.”

The wash-out did not damage the highway, Crane said.
