THORNTON, Colo.—Prosecutors say a woman facing charges in a February car accident in Thornton that killed a family of five has given herself up to authorities.
Thirty-four-year-old Monica Chavez has been charged with five counts of criminally negligent homicide in the deaths of Randy and Crystal Stollsteimer and their three young boys.
Police say Chavez was driving an SUV that crossed a median, struck a sedan, went airborne and hit the top of the Stollsteimers’ pickup.
Prosecutors announced the charges Friday and Chavez voluntarily surrendered to Thornton police. Authorities say she will be held at the Adams County jail.
