LITTLETON, Colo.—Two people were transported to a hospital after police say a BMW sport utility vehicle hit a Regional Transportation District bus.

The Denver Post reports that investigators were trying to determine why the bus travelled 900 feet up a hill after the accident before jumping a curb and hitting a tree. A passenger on the bus, as well as the driver of the SUV were both transported to a hospital for observation.

The newspaper reports that the driver of the SUV will be cited for running a red light.

Investigators say the driver was not injured nor suffered a medical condition that could explain why it took so long for the bus to stop. Littleton police spokesman Sean Dugan says they’re looking at a possible mechanical problem.
