Denver police are trying to determine which of two vehicles involved in a fatal three car accident last night on Interstate 25 was traveling in the wrong direction.

A woman died in the accident at about 11:45 p.m., and three others who sustained non-life threatening injuries were transported to Denver Health Medical Center, said Det. John White.

A Lexus Sport utility vehicle, a Mercury sport utility vehicle and a Nissan were all involved in the crash in a northbound lane near the Downing Street exit.

The dead woman, who was approximately 31 years old, was driving the Nissan.

“The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are trying to determine whether the Lexus or the Nissan were travelling the wrong way,” White said.

Northbound I-25 was closed at Downing around midnight and didn’t reopen until 5 a.m., White said.

Investigators haven’t determined if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
