A lot of people made tracks to the Gourmet Fine Catering headquarters for a benefit food and beverage tasting put on by the Alliance Foundation. Because everything served was either farmed, grown, brewed or distilled in Colorado, the carbon footprints were small.
Savor the Colorado Flavor proved to be a very tasty way of raising money for scholarships awarded to women attending Metropolitan State College, the University of Colorado Denver and the University of Denver Women’s College.
Everything was donated — from the elk, buffalo, trout, beef, sausage and vegetables upon which the evening’s menu was based, to the local spirits, wines and beers that were paired with each dish. The catering company provided the setting, chefs and wait staff.
“We feel that education is one of the best ways for women to become economically self-sufficient,” says the Alliance Foundation’s president, attorney Lorni Sharrow. “More women are entering college than ever before, but many face huge obstacles. Our scholarships can make a significant difference by erasing the need to work or to seek additional financial support.”
