The Rockies ran the bases with equal parts aggression and carelessness Monday night. They made three base-running errors in the first six innings. Dexter Fowler was picked off in the first inning. Carlos Gonzalez was thrown out on a double steal in the fifth. Fowler and Jose Morales ended up occupying third base on Jonathan Herrera’s single, leaving Morales trapped in a rundown.
Quick six.
Clayton Mortensen needed only 71 pitches to navigate six innings, benefiting from three double plays turned by the Rockies’ defense.
Helton hot.
Veteran first baseman Todd Helton, the Rockies’ most consistent offensive performer, extended his hitting streak to six games with a fourth-inning single. Helton likely will make a start today because of his three homers off left-handed pitching, his most since 2004.
