A family member discovered two people dead in a northwest Denver home this afternoon.

“We’re investigating this as a murder-suicide,” said Lt. Matt Murray, a Denver police spokesman.

The bodies of a man and a woman were found in the house in the 3800 block of Bryant Street at about 5:30 p.m.

Murray said only one of the two people lived in the house and that person hadn’t lived there very long.

The couple’s names were not released, and Murray said he did not yet know how long the bodies might have been there or if there was a history of domestic violence between them.

Neighbors gathered at the end of the quiet street a few blocks east of Federal Boulevard, as police worked inside the bungalow at mid-block.

“I didn’t know her,” said neighbor Stefanie Quintonos. “I couldn’t tell you who it is, but I know I won’t ever walk by that house and not think of what must have happened. I’ll always remember them.”

Residents said the area is no stranger to violence.

About four blocks away, 16-year-old Alicia Martinez was shot and dismembered after going to a party in October 2010. The home’s resident, Edward Timothy Romero, 26, is awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges. The home is only about eight blocks away from where Assistant Adams County District Attorney Sean May was shot to death outside his home in August 2008. That case remains unsolved.

“Our little area looks like Mayberry, but you can’t forget it’s a big city,” said James Clines, who is new to the area and didn’t know the couple found dead today.

“I worry about my kids seeing all this stuff.”
